Day 1 welcome to Lima Peru
You will be welcomed in the Lima airport by our friendly representative who will take you to your hotel. Along the way, you will be told about key places of interest in Lima. Upon arriving at your hotel, you will be given a free afternoon to enjoy and sightsee in the district of Miraflores or downtown Lima. In the evening, you are free to take advantage of Lima´s nightlife and visit the many excellent restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Day 2 Lima – Paracas
After breakfast in your hotel you will taken to the bus station and driven to Paracas, approximately four hours from Lima. Upon your arrival in Paracas you will be met at the bus station and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon, after lunch you will visit the National Reserve of Paracas You will overnight in Paracas and prepare yourself for the beautiful Ballestas Islands the following day.
Day 3: Ballestas Islands
You will travel by boat to the Ballestas Islands (otherwise known as the small Galapagos) where you can see a variety of wildlife including penguins, flamingos, sea lions and thousands of sea birds. In the afternoon you will travel by bus from Paracas to Ica, the home of the famous Nazca Lines. You will spend the night in a hotel in Ica.
Day 4: Nazca Lines
After breakfast, our representative will take you to the airstrip where you will be taken in a small aircraft to view the Nazca Lines – mysterious lines that can only be seen from the air. You will see lines tracing a monkey, fish, spider, hummingbird, dog and many other animals on the desert below. You will be free to enjoy the afternoon in Ica where you can taste your first Pisco Sour as Ica is the home of the Pisco grape. In the evening, you will take a Cruz del Sur Overnight Bus to Arequipa (9 hours).
Day 5: Arequipa
Upon your arrival in Arequipa, you will be escorted to the hotel and given a free day to acclimatize. Arequipa is a beautiful city and you can visit the main square, the cathedral and the Santa Catalina Museum where the famous Ice Maiden is located.
Day 6: Colca Canyon
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arequipa by your tour guide and your adventure to Colca Valley will begin! Along the way, we will pass through Pampa Galeras Reserve where it is easy to spot Vicuñas, Alpacas & Llamas. When you arrive in the village of Chivay in Colca Canyon you will be taken to the lodge where you will spend the night. You will have a free afternoon to relax and enjoy the natural hot springs.
Day 7: Colca Canyon
After an early breakfast, you will be driven to Mirador Cruz del Condor (a famous condor viewing lookout). You will have amazing views of the deepest canyon in the world and get to see the magestic condor flying above the canyon and with luck they will be directly in front of you! Afterwards, we will return to Arequipa passing by Sabancaya, El Misti and Ampato Volcanoes. We will overnight again in Arequipa and prepare for the journey to Puno the following day.
Day 8: Arequipa - Puno
The bus ride from Arequipa to Puno is approximately 6 hours with fabulous views of the mountains and glaciers. You will arrive in Puno and be transferred to your hotel at which point you will enjoy a free afternoon to relax and acclimatize to the altitude of Puno (3860m).
Day 9: Lake Titicaca
After breakfast in your hotel, your tour guide will pick you up at 7am to transfer you to the port of Lake Titicaca where you will meet up with your group. (Make sure you take some souvenirs such as school supplies, and food for the family that you will stay with on the island). After a ten minute boat ride, you will arrive to the Uros floating islands. These amazing islands are made from reeds that grow in the same area. Here your guide will teach you about the origin of these islands and the history of the people that live there. Then, after another two hour boat ride on this amazing lake we will arrive to Amantani Islands where you will stay with a local family. You will have lunch with them, and in the late afternoon you will climb for one hour to the peak of the island to see the sunset on the lake. After dinner your family will provide traditional Andean dress which you will put on for a party with the other group members and local people that evening.
Day 10: Lake Titicaca
After seeing an amazing sunrise over the lake and saying goodbye to the family you stayed with, you will take a boat to Taquile Island. Here, your guide will teach you about Pre-Inkan Andean culture such as farming, textiles, and languages. Then, you will take a boat back to Puno where you will spend the night.
Day 11: Puno - Cusco
After breakfast in the hotel, you will be transferred to the bus station in Puno at 7am. You will board a tour bus (Inka Express) to make the journey from Puno to Cusco. The trip will include multiple stops at various places of interest including Pre-Inkan and Inkan ruins, a Catholic chapel known as the Sixteenth Chapel, museums and fabulous viewpoints of the Altiplano region. A traditional buffet lunch is included en route. Upon your arrival to Cusco, you will be transfered to your hotel in the centre of historic Cusco (3300m).
Day 12: Cusco
Enjoy a free day in Cusco, to rest and take advantage of this beautiful, historic city.
Day13: City Tour of Cusco
After enjoying a free morning in Cusco, you will meet at 1pm to begin your city tour of Cusco. You will visit the Sun Temple (the main temple of the Inkans), and the main Cathedral of Cusco. You will also be taken to some nearby Inkan ruins such as Sacsayhuaman, (with its impressive stone walls overlooking Cusco city), Qenko (an astronomical centre of the Inkas), Puca Pucara (an administrative Inkan centre) and Tambo Macha (the main water temple of the Inkas). Your expert guides will provide insight into the history and culture of the Inkan civilization.
Day 14: Sacred Valley
At 8am you will meet up with your group at the office where you will begin your full day tour of the Sacred Valley. You will begin the day in Pisac, only half an hour from Cusco. Pisac offers amazing souvenir shopping in a traditional market as well as beautiful Inkan ruins in the surrounding hillside. You will then make the hour trip to Urubamba where you will be provided with lunch. From there, the trip continues just half an hour to Ollantaytambo a magical town at the foot of the Sacred Valley where you can explore the Sun Temple with incredible stone walls second only to those of Machu Picchu. You will return to Cusco in the afternoon, stopping in Chinchero, the home of traditional alpaca textiles and where you can also visit Inkan ruins, and a Catholic church.
Day 15: Cusco - Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu)
You will be picked up after breakfast from your hotel and be taken back down the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. From there, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes. Along the way, you will see impressive views of the Andean landscape, snow capped mountains and Inkan ruins. Upon your arrival to Aguas Calientes, a representative will take you to your hotel. You will have the afternoon to enjoy the markets and hot springs of Aguas Calientes as well as possible day hikes in the surrounding hillsides.
Day 16: Machu Picchu - Cusco
Day 16 promises to be the most magical day of your tour! You will get up at 5am to and after an early breakfast will be transferred by bus to Machu Picchu to be greeted by the sunrise over these famous ruins. You will be provided with a guided tour of these amazing, magical & mysterious Incan Ruins. The tour will give you an understanding of the Inkas; their temples, residences, ceremonial buildings, water fountains, farming terraces and plazas. After the tour you will be provided with free time to explore this unique site on your own. Optional activities include: climbing to Huaynapicchu (temple of the moon), Inti Punku (the Sun gate) or the Inca bridge. You will return to Aguas Calientes by bus in the late afternoon where you will then catch the train back to Ollantaytambo. There you will return to Cusco and your hotel by bus.
Day 17: CUSCO – PUERTO MALDONADO - TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE – MONKEY ISLAND.
On your arrival of your flight to puerto Maldonado , our guide / staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the center of the town where you can experience the exotic local market depending on the arrival time of the fight we might have the first lunch here or while traveling to the lodge or in the lodge, we Take our private bus along the Madre de Dios river for approximately 1 hour to TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE a cold welcome drinks awaits you and then you will be shown to your bungalows to settle in. later In the afternoon will be 30 minutes boat Journey to monkey island where you can enjoy a great diversity of monkeys such as the Maquisapa , martin , little lions , frailes , Ronsocos ,etc. as well as rich variety of birds. Return to the lodge for a delicious traditional dinner, nocturnal walks are optional if the conditions are great it will depend of the guide.
Day 18: TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE - SANDOVAL LAKE .
After a great jungle breakfast , we take 1 and half hour walk to the famous Sandoval lake , passing through virgin forest , home to beautiful to beautiful flora and fauna including Giant otters. Water birds, alligators , wild hens , Taricayas ( small turtles ) and variety of fish. We will spend a few hours in canoe on this one of the most beautiful lakes in the Madre de Dios where you can fish for piranha , row, swim, walk or simple relax before one of the most awe inspiring features of the Jungle in the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base huge lupuna. We might take a short visit to the traditional chacras learning areas of the zone , and return to the lodge.
Day 19: TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE - TARICAYA PROJECT.
After breakfast , further opportunities for discovering the Amazonia ecosystem up close along and array of trails. We will travel a further 1 hour down river to the Taricaya project of specialized trails where you will be led by your guide. He will farther amaze you with the marvels of the jungle through a gentle hike and learning to recognize bird calls, footprints and medicinal plants and their qualities.
Day 20: TAMBO JUNGLE LODGE – COLLPA DE LOROS - PUERTO MALDONADO – LIMA.
Very early departure to witness the spectacle of the collpa de loros, sunrise on the river as we journey 1 and a half hours to a clay wall before hundreds of green parrots congregate at first light each morning . we will generally be able to spend about an hour here before boarding the boat to enjoy breakfast on our return to Puerto Maldonado and light to Lima.
Day 21: Lima City Tour
You will enjoy a private city tour of Lima. You will visit museums, churches and shopping districts. Finally you will have time to prepare for your international flight.
