Inca Trail Clean Up Camping
Alpaca Expeditions’ amazing Green Machine, the super men who make up our team of guides, cooks and porters along the Inka Trail and alternative treks that we offer, took a few days last month to give a bit back to our beautiful Andean mountains. We feel that it is so important to respect our beautiful planet and honor and take care of her. We feel very strongly that our trekkers have come a long way to do these amazing treks and they deserve to see a pristine environment, free from the evidence of other, less conscientious trekkers that have preceded them.
We left Cusco at daybreak on February 8th, about 6AM, and 12-15 of our porters and cooks took a day along the Lares to Machu Picchu trail to collect trash and litter. They also collected debris from the shores of the lakes. We ended up with 10 huge sacks of rubbish!
We want to make sure that the sustainability of these magnificent treks and lands of ours endure.
A simple definition of “sustainability” is that it requires that something that improves the quality of human life while living within the carrying capacity of supporting eco-systems. But sustainability is also a call to action, a journey – showing respect for nature and the other living beings with which we share the planet, and the planet herself, our Pachamama/Mother Earth.
Alpaca Expeditions is dedicated to making sure that we are eco-friendly company with sustainable values. We want to make sure to give back some of the rich abundance that is bestowed upon us, a marvelous concept known in the Andes as “Ayni” (meaning “sacred reciprocity”). We will continue with our social projects such as this Clean Up Campaign and other Beautification Projects.
