Fantastic trek with the Alpaca team
Overall the trek was a fantastic way to get to Machu Picchu; however it was much more than that thanks to the team of guides (Joyce and Abraham), porters, drivers, admin and the fantastic chef (Valberto) and his team of cooks. They really took care of us as a group and individually and treated us like friends. They kept us on track as well as made adjustments as we needed and kept us well informed. They made a very physically challenging hike into a very memorable once in a lifetime experience.
The Salkantay
Had an excellent time on the salkantay hike with the very knowledgeable and friendly tour guides Sergio and Yefri. Would high recommend these two to friends as they made us all feel very welcome. Accomodation was great and the food even better!
Salkantay Trek - Incredible!
We had the most amazing time on the Salkantay Trek! A huge thank you to our guides, Sergio and Jefferson who honestly made the whole experience. They went above and beyond every day to make sure everyone was looked after and having a great time.
The food was incredible every meal was delicious and there was always so much of it! The hikes and scenery were amazing, but what really made the trek special was all the knowledge Sergio and Jefferson shared about the Incas and Quechua culture. It made the experience so much more meaningful.
Everything was so well organised from start to finish. The guides were always on time and explained what each day would involve to make sure everyone felt prepared.
The group was also a great mix of couples, solo travellers and friends, which made it so much fun. We made some great memories along the way!
I'd highly recommend this company to anyone thinking about doing the Salkantay Trek. You won't regret it, and if you get Sergio and Jefferson as your guides, you're in for an unforgettable trip!
The perfect way to experience the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
I did the 5-day, 4-night trek, and it was a dream come true. The trail itself was spectacular - traveling from the Andean grasslands through high mountain forests and descending through the cloud forest to Machu Picchu.
Our guide, Valentin, was amazing. We were particularly interested in orchids and birds, and he helped us find rare and beautiful species, including toucans. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history, culture, plants, and wildlife of the trail. His first language is Quechua, and he also speaks fluent Spanish and English, making communication easy. He also taught us Quechua words whenever we asked. His enthusiasm and love for the landscape and the Inca sites really added to the experience.
Our chef, Raul, was incredible and exceeded all of my expectations. Every day we had a wide variety of delicious traditional beverages, soups, main dishes, and desserts. My personal favorites were the lomo saltado, mango ceviche, and passion fruit drink. Every meal was something to look forward to. He even baked us a cake, which was amazing considering it was made outdoors without a traditional kitchen.
Our lead porter, Heber, managed the logistics perfectly. Everything got where it needed to go, on time, and he was always friendly and welcoming despite how hard everyone on the porter team was working. His organization made the entire trek run smoothly, and we never had to worry about anything.
I look forward to returning someday, and I would highly recommend Alpaca Expeditions and this team to anyone interested in the adventure of the Inca Trail. They made an unforgettable experience even better.
Inca Trail 4 Day Trek - Great Experience!
We did the 4 Day Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions. We did the trip for my brother's 40th birthday, and it was everything we hoped for and more. Juan Carlos and Jose were our guides, and they did such a great job of ensuring that we had a great experience throughout our hike. We had a bunch of variety of ages and fitness levels in our group, but they both did a wonderful job of keeping us all together.
Truly, the stars of the show are the porters. Daniel, our head porter, ran a tight ship, and it's truly remarkable all of the weight that porters carry and set up for the hikers to make the experience so easy for us. In addition, we were definitely well fed by Moises and the rest of the kitchen staff, as we were never left hungry (maybe too much food?). It's truly such a production to get a group of hikers from start to end, and the Alpaca team is such a well-oiled machine in ensuring that each hiker has a wonderful experience.
