2 day Short Inca Trail
Had a really great trip, Soledad our guide was amazing and knew so much about the history of the area as well as about all the plants in the region. The food made by Noemi was really really good as well, the lunch we had along the hike was awesome. And Juan the porter got all of our things there and back again. Had a great trip!
Great time doing the 2 day Macchu Picchu tour with camping
We had a wonderful time doing the short Inca Trek with camping. Soledad was an amazing tour guide, so knowledgeable and comprehensive in all her explanations. The food was very good thanks to our chef Noemi, there were so many options and they were very accommodating to me having a pescatarian diet. Juan was our porter and extremely nice and helpful. Overall would highly recommend and am thinking about coming back to do another trek in the future.
Salkantay with Alpaca Expeditions: the highlight of my solo trip to Peru
I did the 5-day, 4-night Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expeditions at the end of September as a solo traveller, and it was the best part of my three weeks in Peru. I had built the whole trip around it, which felt like a risk, but it paid off. A big part of that was our guide, Raul V. He was genuinely funny, and he let us go at our own pace so we never felt rushed. He also shared plenty of stories and history along the way, which made the landscape and the places we passed through much more meaningful. Thank you, Raul, for making the experience what it was. What made it special was the group. There were eight of us including five people who were friends-from-home. By the end we all became good friends, playing card games in the evenings. The views were wonderful too, especially seeing the landscape change through so many different microclimates over the days. I quite liked that our group had one guide and was smaller compared to the other Alpaca Expedition groups; it felt more tight-knit. The trek is demanding at times. I struggled with the altitude, though nothing serious, and it took more out of me than I expected. I’d suggest spending a few slow days in Cusco beforehand to acclimatise, and allowing an extra rest day afterwards. Diamox, coca tea, and decent fitness may help, but sometimes it just comes down to genetics. I paid a supplement for a private room in Aguas Calientes, which was good quality and kept the group together. I also added an extra night there to queue for a Machu Picchu ticket. Alpaca were able to get me a Circuit 3B ticket whilst we were on the trek, and I managed to see Circuit 2A as well. Machu Picchu lived up to the build-up, and the extra night meant I caught Aguas Calientes celebrating its 85th birthday with a parade. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a proper trek with a sociable group. TIP: Renting equipment from Alpaca is relatively expensive. Consider renting from a 3rd party company in Cusco.

Experiencia fantástica en Lares, magníficamente organizada por Alpaca! Nuestra guía fue Soledad, que nos mantuvo informados en todo momento del plan de ruta y nos explicó ampliamente sobre geografía, fauna y flora, cultura y tradiciones locales. El chef, ayudante y arrieros también merecen un gran reconocimiento por facilitarnos tanto la vida, y el material facilitado por Alpaca (sacos, esterillas, bastones y tiendas) fue excelente. Una ruta muy recomendable por la poca concurrencia de otros turistas y por el contacto directo y real con las comunidades nativas andinas.
Amazing sacred valley and Machu Picchu tour !!!
Saul Palma from Alpaca Expeditions took us on 3 day 2 night tour of the sacred valley and Machu Picchu. Day 1 we visited Inca ruins outside Cusco, a beautiful Alpaca sanctuary through the Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Day 2 we throughly enjoyed a visit to a textile Center in Chincero, Salt mines in Maras and an Archaeological site at Maray. The last day of the tour was the pinnacle. Visiting Machu Picchu. Having Saul organise an early morning visit at 6am was perfect because we avoided crowds and got to see Machu Picchu shine in the morning sun. Saul’s passion and enthusiasm came through in the knowledge he shared with us. I would definitely Saul as a guide and Alpaca expeditions !
