Kiswarani Village

chritmas Alpaca Expeditions For many years these villages have been forgotten by our Peruvian government, especially those villages located in the middle of the mountains which do not even have access to cars and people can only arrive by horses. We consider that our region Cusco receives more than a Million tourist per year which would make you think that Cusco is the richest region BUT it’s not. Considered as one of the poorest region in Peru due to the money collected from tourists being sent to Lima.

Alpaca Expeditions as a Peruvian company related to this activity of tourism is working hard to making the lives better in the forgotten villages and creating happy faces for children, especially when we are getting closer to Christmas we should make the children who have never seen toys or the famous Panetone and chocolate that is served at homes, happy.

At this time we chose the Andean village called Kiswarani which is located 3.5 hours driving from Cusco near Lares valley. Kiswarani is the first village you will pass when you are hiking the Lares trek, Kiswarani is a village Located at 3.800m/12467.19 ft., it host around 45 families, each family has around 5 children who are going to local schools and some already going to Cusco for their higher studies. Some of the villagers are porters for Alpaca Expeditions on the Inka trail and some are the ones leading the horses for Lares trekking. Their president from the village is Victor Aranzabal who is 45 years old approximately and who is also working with the trek horses for our company.

Alpaca expeditions has donated 100 pairs of rubber boots for 100 children between 3 years old to 13 years. These boots are extremely necessary for these children who live at this elevation, where it’s always cold, muddy and snowing.

Christmas children

Christmas is a great month to serve chocolate and panetone. I want to say from my heart that these children do not get chocolate and bread and fruits in their lives due to the location and the economic social status of their parents.
