If you want an amazing experience for a multi-day hike, book with Alpaca Expeditions. We had Rolando and Daniel as a guide, along with a great team of porters, horsemen and chefs and had an unforgetable experience. Overall an absolutely incredible 5 challenging days worth every step! The chefs made delicious meals in simple kitchens – hot soups and a main meal for every lunch and dinner. Not only did the 2 person chef team prepare every meal for our group of 17, they hiked every trek, arriving before us. The porters carried our bags, allowing us to pack more than just 3 outfits – which was very helpful for the varying climates across the trek. Days 1-2 are colder, but days 3-5 descend into the warm (hot) jungle. Our guides Americo and Walter were extremely knowledgeable and kind. Having both grown up in small Andean towns they represented the culture well. Walter gave demonstrations of how to twist grass into ropes, a task his grandfather had taught him. Americo knew so much of the history along the route as well as the details of Machu Picchu, always with a smile! It’s a tough route, with remote camps so be prepared for all weather and bringing your own toilet paper but the breathtaking landscapes and history is worth it!
I had a great 2 day Inca trail experience with Reynaldo Q. He was helpful when I was struggling with the hike by offering to carry my backpack and didnt rush me saying “it’s your vacation”. He was a great photographer as well constantly offering to take photos for us. Alpaca had great and fast communication answering any of my questions leading up to the tour as well!

Great guides
The trip was well organized and an amazing journey. My tour guide Juan Carlos and Walter were amazingly knowledgeable and shared about the Incan culture and archeological sights . They made the journey fun and took care of all the logistics perfectly
100% recommend trekking with Alpaca!
From initial booking to final hotel drop off – everything with alpaca was flawless. We booked the 4D/3N Inca trail for mid September. Alpaca was always prompt in their responses to my many, many emailed questions leading up the the trek no matter how small they seemed. They truly take care of all logistical component to make the experience as smooth as possible from booking Machu Picchu entry tickets, bus tickets, train tickets, storing luggage, etc. so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Our guides, Javier and Carlos, were as good as they get. So knowledge about the culture and history, patient and encouraging throughout the difficult moments, and integrated seamlessly/helped a group of 16 strangers become a family. They timed everything perfectly by making sure we got to the right spots at great times to avoid many other groups, assisted with photos, etc. I was impressed by the quality (and quantity!!) of the hot, fresh breakfast, lunch, and dinner served daily! They also provided snacks in the mornings for us to take each day. The porters work SO hard and deserve every piece of recognition they get. Super kind people who made camp life so easy for us, this wouldn’t be possible without them. They really are incredible. We did consider doing a private trek, but we are so glad we chose the group option – we got to meet some of the most amazing people from all over the world and form a bond we’ll never forget. Lastly, the Inca trail itself is absolutely incredible and worth every single breathless step. Machu Picchu is amazing but the journey getting there is a very close rival. If I had to do it over again I’d 100% choose Alpaca!
Once in a lifetime experience
Me and 2 friends completed the 7D/6N Salkantay + Inca trail trek and the experience will stay with me forever. The journey certainly wasn’t easy; of the 12 that set off in our group, only 5 completed the full distance but if you are considering this itinerary then I would still highly recommend it. The magical first glimpse of the citadel is made so much more special by the journey. It felt like the perfect mix of stunning landscapes throughout: seclusion for most of the first 4 days, including over 5000m altitude, followed by impressive human made paths and ruins from day 5. Our guides Mr Hono & Joel were a joy to trek with and looked after us when we were run down or sick (as most of us were at one point or another!) plus the chefs and porters are absolutely superhuman in their abilities. This was my first multi-day trek and I can now say that I don’t think it will be my last. The journey is the destination!
Amazing Experience!
Once in a lifetime experience! From day one we were well taken care of. Our group bonded together along with our guides, portors, and chef. As we progressed through the glorious mountains with each challenge there was support and celebrations for our achievements. A big thank you to Juan Carlos and Yadi for their attention to all the details.
