Alpaca Expeditions hopes our trekkers get immersed into Inca life – walking in their footsteps and exploring their homes, temples and sanctuaries. Food is an important part of Inca life and what made it so special – which is also the case for any tour or trek with Alpaca Expeditions.
So in 2022, Alpaca Expeditions has added a cooking class during each of our treks led by our amazing trekking chefs and interpreted by our guides.
We will set up your dining tent as a make shift kitchen and offer you all the supplies needed to make a Peruvian specialty. Your chef will walk you through, step by step, how to make a traditional Peruvian meal such as Lomo Saltado showcasing some of the tricks needed during mountain cooking.
Peru has become a culinary epicenter, but it really started with the popularity of our famous beef dish, Lomo Saltado. Most often, this will be the meal you will learn to cook. But there will also be the opportunity to learn how to cook other meals like a traditional Peruvian ceviche or even our signature drink, the pisco sour.
These classes are purely voluntary and meant to be a fun way to learn something new. Consistently our clients have commented about the amazing ability of our chefs to create magic on the mountaintop. While you learn how to prepare and cook Peruvian specialties, you will also witness first hand how to create such elaborate meals on a small campsite stove.
Our intention is to have classes on every trek that includes a trekking chef.

Porters will carry up to 7 kg of your personal items, which must include your sleeping bag and air mat (if you bring or rent one). From us, these two items weigh a combined total of 3.5 kg.
