Tour guides were fantastic

We did the 2D/1N trek with Nilton and Romairo, and they were fantastic guides. They were incredibly accommodating, supportive, and attentive throughout the entire trek. We felt very well taken care of and truly appreciated how they adjusted everything to our needs. Highly recommend them!

An Inspiring & Unforgettable Experience!

Our family (me, my husband, and our 14-year old son) recently did a private trek with Alpaca that combined the Salkantay Trek 4D/3N with the 2-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It was unforgettable and life-changing! We cannot praise the Alpaca team enough. Our guide for the entire time was Soledad. She was amazing - empathetic, supportive, knowledgeable, adaptable, resourceful and with a great sense of humor (which is important on this challenging trek!). She went above and beyond, from treating multiple severe blisters on our feet, to caring for our son, who suffered substantially from altitude sickness. Our chef, Teofilo, created delicious, nutritious and creative meals every time. He clearly took so much pride in his work, thoughtfully planning and preparing wonderful meals. He had the added challenge of accommodating my multiple food allergies, which he did with such care, always ensuring a wide and delicious variety of food, and even surprising us with special treats - including a scrumptious and beautifully-decorated egg-free cake! When one is on a challenging trek like this, food becomes especially important. The effort and love that Teofilo put into our meals fed our bodies and souls and made it possible for us to accomplish our goal and have this unforgettable experience. Our porter, Anderson, worked so hard! He never stopped moving. We found out three days into our trek that it was Anderson's first time working as porter. We couldn't believe it. At all times, he was putting in more than 100% effort and seemed to know exactly how to help at all times. Both Teofilo and Anderson always had warm smiles on their faces, no matter how hard they were working and how tired they must have been. Their positivity affected all of us and bonded us as a team. One morning, our teenage son could not do part of the trek, and he spent the time instead with Teofilo and Anderson as they moved supplies and began preparing our next meal. We knew our son was in very good hands. They treated him with such kindness, like family. Finally, we are so grateful to Sabino, our horseman, and his lovely wife, Flor. They worked tirelessly to get all our much-needed supplies/packs to our next destination each day, handling the horses/mules on challenging terrain, with great skill and speed. But, they did so much more. On the most difficult day of the trek, when we were facing the hike up to the Salkantay Pass, our son was very sick due to the altitude. Soledad arranged for our son to take a mule. Sabino led the mule (carrying our son) the entire way up, carefully ensuring our son's safety every step of the way.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the actual trekking as well. Both treks are truly remarkable. The Salkantay trek we did is very challenging and fast-paced but an extremely rewarding experience, involving multiple climates and such varied and beautiful landscapes and terrain. The Short Inca Trail is steeped in fascinating and meaningful history; arriving at Machu Picchu, both through the Sun Gate in the afternoon and again for the sunrise the next day, were awe-inspiring, spiritual experiences. It was very moving and emotional.

Again, we want to express our deepest gratitude for our team - Soledad, Teofilo, Anderson, Sabino & Flor. Words simply cannot adequately express our gratitude to them - such genuine, caring, big-hearted, generously-spirited, inspiring people. There is no way we would have had anything like the unique, memorable and soul-fulfilling experience that our family did without them. We will be eternally thankful to, and for, them.

The journey is the destination, but it’s the people who truly made this trek unforgettable!

Absolutely incredible experience with Alpaca Expeditions! The 4-day Inca Trail trek was truly the trip of a lifetime, and the entire team went above and beyond from start to finish.

The FOOD was INSANE. Our chef Mario was absolutely amazing! I’m coeliac and lactose intolerant, and they were constantly checking in with me, making sure I had safe alternatives and that everything I was eating was safe. The meals genuinely felt like a five-course experience — the food just kept coming! I was blown away by how well they catered to the MANY different dietary requirements within our group while still making every meal absolutely delicious. Huge credit to Mario for making me feel so well looked after.

The porters were incredible. It’s honestly unbelievable how quickly they move and everything they manage to do for you. They would pack everything up behind us, somehow fly past us on the trail, and still beat us to the next campsite — where they’d be completely set up and waiting to clap us in! Their hard work does not go unnoticed, and they were such an incredible part of the experience.

Our guide, Hono, was fantastic. I genuinely couldn’t speak more highly of him. He was HILARIOUS, his English was perfecto, and he taught us so much about Inca culture and the history surrounding the trail. He was constantly checking that we had everything we needed (and more) and made the whole experience so much fun.

And a special mention to Vanessa, who was unbelievably sweet and was always there cheering us on as we conquered each section of the trail. Having that encouragement along the way meant so much.

Alpaca Expeditions says “The journey is the destination,” and after this trek, I couldn’t agree more. While reaching Machu Picchu was incredible, it was the people who made the journey truly unforgettable. The laughs, encouragement, kindness and care from the whole team are what I’ll remember most. This trip has become a core memory that I’ll carry with me forever. ❤️

10/10 — would absolutely recommend. Truly the trip of a lifetime!

Trip of a lifetime! Highly recommended!!!

Trip of a lifetime! We (myself and two young adult children) had a wonderful experience with Alpaca Expeditions, which we will never forget. We did the two-day Machu Pichu Inca Trail from Cusco with hotel and this seemed like the perfect way to go. It gave us one long day of hiking (with an amazing gourmet lunch) and views of Machu Pichu from above, a fun dinner and evening in Aguas Calientes (a beautiful little town), and an amazing close-up guided tour of Machu Pichu on day 2.

Our guides Nilton and Romario were wonderful! Nilton was kind, informative, highly organized and tremendously fun! His knowledge of Incan culture and history (and of Peru in general) was amazing. He is the best tour guide we have ever had. Romario was super kind and helpful (and he is an amazing hiker!). They both took time to answer all questions, and to take a lot of photos, which we will cherish.

I was a bit nervous about all the moving parts involved with this tour (train and bus/car rides, hotel, tickets, etc.), but our two guides made us feel at ease from the moment we started. The pre-meet the evening before the tour was very helpful. The tour schedule is rigorous and a bit exhausting, with two very early morning starts. But the early morning starts were key to getting us to Machu Pichu in time both days.

We included the observatory train (recommended) and the Wyana Pichu hike on day two. The add-on hike is HIGHLY recommended but only if you are fit - it is a tough hike, but short and with breathtaking views from the top.

We came into Peru just the day before, so we were worried about altitude issues. We all took Diamox and I think this made a huge difference - some mild huffing and puffing with strenuous hiking, but otherwise we were all fine.

This company is top notch - they do this many times a day, every day, and have it down to a science. They track every detail, communicate well, and have wonderful guides. Highly recommended!!!

We had a wonderful time with Juan visiting the Inca sites in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Juan is very knowledgeable about the history and prehistory of the Inca civilization. He also knew all the best spots for pictures! We really appreciated his expertise.

In general: What an experience! Great guides, chefs, and porters. Alpaca Expeditions is a green company that pays close attention to their carbon footprint, sources their food locally, and has various programs that give back to their community. Bonus: they have a portable toilet that is well maintained and stocked with TP at all times. My personal experience: This is long, but hopefully helpful if you have any reservations about whether you can accomplish this trek! I arrived in Cuzco to acclimate 3 days early…however, I unfortunately succumbed to the altitude on day one of the actual hike and got worse on day 2 and 3. It is not lost on me that I was ONLY able to complete the trek because of the Alpaca team. The chef team, led by Cecilio, were very accommodating to my needs and prepared different teas to try to help me. Our groups guides, Alvin and Yojhan, were beyond encouraging and made sure I was safe the whole time. One of them was always with me even though I took twice as long as the rest of the group. >_< I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the right team supporting you in any situation. Their company’s back bone is stellar, but their actions during the hike showed me their heart is unbeatable.

I recently completed the 4-day Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions alongside my teenage daughters, and it exceeded every expectation. The weather was perfect all four days, which made the stunning views even better. Our guides, Yojhan and Alvin, were true experts, sharing deep insights into Incan history, the wildlife, and the flora and fauna of the area. They were incredibly patient and answered every question we had about Peru and more. From the start, they encouraged us to keep smiles on our faces and told us we’d become a "super family" by the end—and that is exactly what happened. The "super porters" worked tirelessly, and our chef Cecilio and his assistant cooked incredible meals for us along the way. Everything went perfectly to plan, and we finished the expedition with celebratory toasts and a shared album for photos with our new friends. I cannot recommend this team highly enough!

Muy buena experiencia con Alvin y Yojhan haciendo el camino Inka clásico. La comida que nos hizo Cecilio y Angelito estaba impresionante. Repetiría seguro!

The 4 day Inca trip was the best trip i have had in my lifetime. Beyond the scenic scenery everything has been well planned through. Alvin and Yohan were there for any possible inquries and shared a lot of nice insights along the inca trail. The food was better than any regular meal you can grab in town and was served three times a day by the amazing chef Cecilo and his crew. If you don’t do this trip you miss out.
