Machu Picchu Tours from Lares Combine Beauty with Adventure
Travelers who plan Machu Picchu Peru tours are in for an amazing trip. Visitors experience starry nights, therapeutic hot springs, and soaring mountain peaks. A tour that combines Peruvian culture with an Inca Trail trek begins in Cusco and culminates with a visit to Machu Picchu. Anyone who is interested in ancient civilizations, nature, environment, archaeology, and anthropology will enjoy this tour.
Soak in a Hot Spring and Meet a Llama!
Our Lares 2D Inca Trail with Hotel (5D/4N) begins in Cusco and starts off the adventure. A scenic three hour drive through the Sacred Valley and Andes concludes at the Lares Hot Springs. After your delicious breakfast, soak in pure volcanic water and feel the stress melt away.
Relaxed, you’ll head to the next stop: Punta Carretera for a hike to Kiswarani. Take in the sights of working potato farms and savor a hearty lunch. After you eat, enjoy a lesson on the importance of llamas and why they were considered sacred to the Inca. These friendly animals will impress you with their strength and beauty.
Finally, day 1 ends with a hike to your evening campsite. There, your tent will be ready and a fantastic meal will be served. Close out the day by gazing at the magestic stars in the night sky.
Beautiful Scenery Along Condor Pass Hike
Bright and early on the second day you’ll begin your climb to the summit of Condor Pass. A four hour hike includes views of gorgeous lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife. On the way down the mountain the ancient village of Cancha Cancha welcomes you. Here the people continue to practice real traditions of the Inca and the village has no electricity or cars. Spend the day learning about the Inca lifestyle in a local family’s homes. As a witness to history, you’ll learn about how life today in this village mirrors that of the ancient Inca.
Highlights of Peruvian Agriculture
Day 3 is the final leg of your Lares trek. Enjoy breakfast and some final exploration of Cancha Cancha. Walking downhill you’ll observe farms growing traditional Inca food like potatoes, fava beans, and tubers. As the day goes on you’ll notice the temperature rising as you come down the mountain. As the climate changes, so do the crops. Corn, quinoa, kiwi, peaches and avocados are grown at the lower altitude.
The hike ends in the village of Huaran where you’ll board a van to Maras. This town features the Salineras salt pans. The salt from here has been used since ancient times and is said to have healing properties. Enjoy seeing this process and then we’ll head to the hotel in Ollantaytambo for a much-deserved nigh of rest.
The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu
An early morning train ride delivers you to the Inca Trail. Spectacular scenery greets you at every pass along the way. Equipped with lunch and drinks, you’ll begin the trek. Hiking up to the Classic Inca Trail you’ll observe amazing views of Machu Picchu and the mighty Urubanba River. Three hours later you’ll arrive at the stunning Inca site: Winay Wayna (Forever Young). Marvel at an elaborate water fountain, temples and Inca agricultural terraces. Next the Sun Gate welcomes you as we begin our descent to Machu Picchu. Arriving to Machu Picchu in the afternoon, after much of the crowds have gone home, is a real advantage. You’ll finish up the day with a bus ride to Aguas Calientes to your hotel.
Your final day begins with sunrise at Machu Picchu. Following a comprehensive two hour tour you’ll have enough time to explore on your own. An available add-on is a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu, so please ask us for more information about that exciting option. Enjoy lunch on your own back in Aguas Calientes and board the train to begin your journey back to Cusco.
